MINOR Spoiler Alert
When I walked into the Dark Knight, I was in an agitated state, mainly because there was nowhere to sit in the theater and I just barely got in (due to a prick of a ticket guy who claimed there were no seats left when there actually was). But I finally found a seat and thought about the main reason everyone was going to see this movie; Heath Ledger. Ledger died earlier this year of a accidental overdose of sleeping pills. I pondered this and wondered weather or not Ledger's final performance would live up to the hype.
As I sat through an AWESOME trailer of Terminator Salvation (starring Cristian Bale oddly enough) I began to feel better and settled down for a film with very high expectations, due to the fact that I LOVED Batman Begins.
The movie begins with a bank robbery by the Joker that ends quite disturbingly and moves on to Batman's "defeat" of the Scarecrow (which I still don't fully understand). The beginning is also filled with lots of action, and set up with the characters and moves along at a steady pace that is ultimately satisfying. As the movie progresses however, it gets extremely dark and disturbing including a scene where the Joker graphically describes how he got his "smile." There is also humor, romance and major plot points that keeps the audience guessing and guessing and guessing again. Another character that is brought in about 2/3 of the way into the movie is Two-Face (played by Aaron Eckhart). Wow, what a way to give nightmares to your children, the Joker and Two-Face in the same Batman movie.
Anyway, all in all, excellent! Very well done and oscar worthy for a few things including of course Heath's performance as the nightmarish Joker character.
All I want to conclude about this film is that I give it an 8/1o rating and I hope to god that they honor Heath Ledger and leave the Batman films alone despite talks with Johnny Depp being tapped for the Riddler role and Phillip Seymour Hoffman being tapped for the Penguin role, I mean really, they have made 400 million dollars on this film, isnt that enough?
Finally, if you haven't seen the Dark Knight yet, go see it before it leaves theaters, trust me, you won't be dissapointed,
sincerely,
DJ D
